Pregnant and Honest: 40 WEEKS
I can’t believe that Baby Charlie is going to be here in the next day or two! We are heading to the hospital tonight for an induction. This pregnancy has flown by but at this point the days are dragging because I am so exhausted all the time.
Insomnia is in full swing and I am up for about 2-3 hours in the middle of the night. I have never understood the insomnia part of pregnancy. I know that people say, “Well it’s just preparing your body to be up all hours of the night with a newborn” but as far as I’m concerned I would rather enter that phase well rested instead of already being exhausted. But I really have no control over the lack of sleep, so I just try to nap as much as I can; although napping isn’t exactly easy either because it’s so difficult to get comfortable. I have a million pillows and practically sleep sitting up. Phil says that we have the great wall of China between us because there are so many pillows. One night my insomnia was so bad that I was up for 5 hours; after lying awake for 2 hours I got up and cleaned the entire downstairs. Poor Phil thought I was going into labor because all of that cleaning is very uncharacteristic of me.
A lot has happened over the past 2 months since my last post Pregnant and Honest: 30 Weeks. We took some maternity pictures at the beach while my mom was visiting. Some of them turned out great and others were a big pinterest fail. But I will save that for a separate post.
I have been trying to soak up every second I can with Parker because I know things are going to change once Charlie arrives. I am so excited for our new addition but at the same time I am nervous. I often get weepy eyed as I snuggle with Parker because he was my first baby and we will always share a special bond.
I think when I was pregnant with Parker I was in denial about his arrival. I didn’t even have my hospital bag packed until his due date (good thing he came late). But this time I knew I needed to have everything prepared as best I could because it’s going to be a whirlwind trying to take care of two kids versus one. My hospital bag has been packed for weeks, minus the last minute items I need to grab on my way out the door like phone chargers and toothbrushes. I have washed all of the newborn & 0-3 month clothes, plus swaddle blankets, bibs and burp clothes.
Two months ago I went on a “Momcation” to Jersey to visit my best friend Alaina! It was a spur of the moment trip, only Friday to Sunday, but it was monumental because it was the first time I ever left Parker and Phil and went away on my own. Read more about my trip here!
My wonderful friends threw me a Baby Sprinkle and it was amazing. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such caring, godly women who love my sweet baby already! Since we have most of the baby “essentials” from Parker everyone brought diapers and wipes as presents. If you are a mom then you know that diapers and wipes are seriously the most useful present you could ever receive. Those little babies go through A LOT of diapers and it gets expensive! I have been couponing over the past few months for diaper deals so we will be set for several months. For any expecting moms reading this, I would advise you to stock up on diapers BEFORE your baby arrives. It will save you money because you can wait for sales and use coupons! I wish that I had stocked up on diapers before I had Parker.
Thankfully this pregnancy I have barely had any swelling, up until this week that is. It seems like since I hit 39 weeks I have just felt awful. By the end of the day my ankles are a little swollen but it’s really nothing compared to last time. My feet/ankles were unrecognizable with Parker and no shoes fit me. I am also happy that I could still wear my wedding rings until ths week. Now this might not be a big deal to anyone else but by the time I was 5 months pregnant with Parker my rings had to come off.
Here are some of my weekly pictures long the way. I realized I never took a picture for weeks 32, 33 or 37 but hey that's what happens when it's your second pregnancy verses your first.I did a few comparison pictures from my last pregnancy as well so you can see just how different this pregnancy has been.
I must confess that I basically lived in my bathrobe during this pregnancy so I figured it should be documented. I wanted to share with you a real and honest picture of me at 40 weeks so here it is!
The next time I post, baby Charlie will be here!
